WE BELIEVE IN CHANGE
In 2018, Hòn Yến coral reef was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as a national scenic relic.
Hòn Yến is located in Nhơn Hội village, An Hòa commune, Tuy An district, Phú Yên province. It features a rich ecosystem both underwater and on land, with high biodiversity. The coral reef ecosystem is particularly diverse, with 17 species distributed over an area of approximately 12.71 hectares. The colorful corals in Hòn Yến are linked to the geological and geomorphological characteristics, creating a unique feature and becoming a symbol for Phú Yên province.
Research results from the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center (Ministry of Defense) have recorded 22 species of corals belonging to 7 families in Hòn Yến. Many species are only found in the seas of Phú Yên province, notably the soft corals of the Alcyoniidae family and the Lobophytum genus corals.
Due to these unique values, experts have conducted numerous studies to establish conservation areas to protect the ecosystem in the seas of Phú Yên province.
From August 2020 to September 2022, the Global Environment Facility – Small Grants Programme in Vietnam, under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), funded Phú Yên province to implement a project to enhance community capacity in conserving the Hòn Yến coral reef complex in Tuy An district.
